Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Wildcats Fall in Top 25 Basketball Match-up

HENDERSON, Tenn. – Two old foes met Tuesday for the 71st time as the No. 21 Bethel Lady Wildcats traveled to Henderson to meet the No. 5 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions in the Brewer Sports Center.

FHU used a 19-6 run midway of the second quarter to break the game open and went on to lead at the half 46-31. It proved to be too much for the Lady Wildcats to overcome as the Lions prevailed 81-62.

FHU shot 50 percent from the field hitting 33 -of -66 shots from the floor. The Lady Lions hit nine three's and were 6-of-9 from the foul line. They out rebounded Bethel 43-35. Bethel shot 34 percent from the floor hitting 23 -of - 67 attempts from the field. The Lady Cats were 9-of-24 behind the three-point arc.

Bethel was led by Myah Taylor who had 26 points and five rebounds. Morgan Martin followed with 13 and five boards. Millie Bryant tossed in 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Sandrea Sylman led the Lions with 29 points.

Bethel dropped to 3-1 on the season while Freed improved to 2-0 on the year. It was Bethel's first road game of the young season.

The Lady Wildcats had opened their year with home wins over Hiwassee, Brescia and Crowley's Ridge, running their all-time Crisp Arena Record to 94-13. They are 42-2 against SSAC opponents in the building.

Freed's earlier win was 73-39 home victory over Blue Mountain.

Coach Chris Nelson commented, "We are disappointed but in the long run this type game against a great team will help us if we allow it to. They are good shooters and we allowed them too many open looks. The run they had in the second quarter was our undoing but we kept fighting. Every time we appeared ready to make a run in the second half they had an answer. We have to regroup quickly because we have two tough games this weekend in the Challenge."

The Lady Wildcats return to action Friday and Saturday in the SSAC/MSC Challenge.
