MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The No. 21 Bethel Lady Wildcats returned to action for the first time in ten days Tuesday hosting the Fisk University Bulldogs in Crisp Arena. Bethel ran their all-time record to 97-13 in Crisp with a 93-56 win over the Bulldogs.
Bethel moved to 6-1 with the win while the visitors from Nashville dropped to 3-5. Bethel has never lost to Fisk and now has a 5-0 margin in the series.
The Lady Wildcats used a 22-6 second quarter to pull away and never look back in a game that saw them shoot 52 percent hitting 35-of-67 shots from the field. Bethel connected on 12-of-32 three point attempts. They hit 11-of -17 free throw attempts and had a 40-27 advantage in rebounds. Fisk shot 35 percent from the floor and hit just two of 11 three-point attempts. The Lady Wildcats had a decided advantage in bench points at 56-4.
Bethel had five players in double figures led by freshman Ashton Hulme with 16 points. Myah Taylor followed with 14 while Tyasia Willis had 13 points and eight rebounds. Millie Bryant and Danielle Conley each had 11 tallies.
Lashae Brown led Fisk with 17 points.
Coach Chris Nelson commented on the victory. "I thought tonight was good for us from a stand point to work on some different line-ups. We didn't play very hard on the defensive end the first quarter but finally settled in and defended. We shared the basketball exceptionally well tonight and that is always a good thing. We will take tomorrow off so our players can have some family time for Thanksgiving and then get ready for a big weekend of hoops with some of the best teams in the NAIA at Oman Arena."
Bethel returns to action Friday in the 2018 NAIA Invitational hosted by the Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association at Oman Arena in Jackson.
