PULASKI, Tenn. –The Bethel Lady Wildcats lost two heartbreakers Tuesday afternoon in their softball doubleheader at Martin Methodist. The Lady Hawks took game one 4-3 and game two 4-1. Bethel fell to 16-16 overall and 2-12 in the SSAC. The Lady Wildcats have dropped four straight games. MMC improved to 14-17 and 6-8.
Mady Kate Gantt's two run fifth inning double tied game one at two but MMC scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead at 4-2. The Lady Wildcats scored a single run on a RedHawk error in the top of the seventh but with runners in scoring position failed to push them across and fell 4-3.
Bethel outhit MMC 9-5 but left eight runners on base. MMC stranded nine runners. Baylee Mellott picked up the win while Brooke Baucum suffered the loss.
The Lady Cats scored a run on a passed ball in the first inning of game two and took a 1-0 lead. Martin Methodist scored three runs in the fifth and added a single run later to win 4-1. Bethel managed only three hits off winning pitcher Katie Davenport. Casey Wade pitched well but was charged with the Bethel loss.
The Lady Wildcats return to action Friday traveling to Brewton-Parker for a twin bill beginning at 2 p.m.
