MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The No. 17 Bethel Lady Wildcats outscored Coastal Georgia 30-8 in the second quarter and beat the home team 87-50 Thursday night in Brunswick, Georgia. The Lady Cats used thirteen three's to bury the Mariners in Coffin Gym. The thirteen three's match the season high for Bethel. They hit thirteen three-pointers against Brewton-Parker earlier in the season. Bethel has hit 22 three's in the last two games. Bethel Freshman Morgan Martin hit eight treys and scored a career 32 points.
Bethel seized a 6-1 lead in the series with the victory and moved to 16-7 overall and 12-1 in the league. Coastal Georgia dropped to 6-16 and 3-10. Bethel won their sixth straight game while the Mariners lost their sixth straight.
Martin was 11-of-16 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds. Abbey Dew followed with 15 points and nine boards. Shamon Pearson scored 12 points. Jasmine Whittemore had a career high 11 rebounds. Ashlee Francis led the Mariners with 30 points.
Bethel was 33-of-74 from the field at 44 percent. Coastal was 17-of- 65 at 26 percent. The Lady Wildcats had a 26-10 advantage in points off the bench. Bethel had a 55-38 rebound margin.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "We are really proud of our road effort tonight. Morgan just flat out got us off to a hot start and our team and bench fed off of that energy. Our team did a tremendous job finding her in the half court and in transition. Everyone got good minutes and was able to get in a good rhythm. Jas and Abbey gave us great effort on the glass and we were able to leave Abbey in long enough so she could get comfortable and not feel rushed. It was good to see her look like herself out there."
