Lady Wildcats Win in Opening Round of SSAC Women's Soccer Championship & Hand Coach Aird Career Win No. 200

COCHRAN, GA. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats traveled to Cochran, Georgia Friday night to meet the Middle Georgia State Lady Knights in opening round action of the Southern States Athletic Conference Soccer Championships and came away with a thrilling 2-1 win. The victory was the 200th career win for Coach Misty Aird.

The Lady Cats were a number five seed while MGS entered the action as a No. 4 seed.

The Lady Wildcats had goals from Melinda Sopka and Janine Dennis. Spoka also had the assist on the Dennis goal. MGS outshot Bethel 15-11 and had a nine to six advantage on shots on goal but Bethel's Danielle Krzyzaniak was huge in goal as always with seven big saves in the match.

Other teams advancing were No. 1 seeded Martin Methodist, No. 2 seeded Mobile and No. 3 seeded William Carey. The four winners advance to the SSAC Championship Semifinals Nov. 8 at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in Montgomery, Ala. The championship match will take place Nov. 10 at the same field at 4 p.m. CST.

Bethel moved to 12-5 on the season. MMC will be Bethel's opponent while WCU will face Mobile. Martin Methodist is 18-1 and No. 1 in the nation. MMC beat Bethel 7-2 on October 28 in Pulaski. The two teams meet November 8 at 1 p.m.

Coach Aird commented on the milestone win. "I am so proud of these young ladies. They played their hearts out for me and our coaching staff. They are a special group and I'm so happy to share my 200th win with them. I also want to thank the Bethel athletic training staff for keeping us put together this year."
