MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After falling 54-40 to No. 7 Westmont College Friday night the No. 11 Bethel Lady Wildcats dropped their second in a row losing to No. 19 MidAmerica Nazarene 64-58 Saturday night in the Jackson Rotary Classic in Jackson, Tennessee. The Lady Cats fell to 5-5 while the Pioneers moved to 6-1.
Bethel trailed 52-36 at the end of the third quarter but staged a furious comeback and made a game of it pulling to within four on several occasions. Bethel outscored MidAmerica Nazarene 22-12 but came up six points short. The Pioneers had outscore Bethel 18-9 in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference.
Bethel shot 29 percent from the floor hitting 20-of-67 shots. The Lady Cats hit six three's on 24 attempts. They were 12-of-18 from the foul line. The Pioneers out rebounded Bethel 40-30. Bethel is 0-4 when they lose the battle of the boards. MNU was 23-of-54 from the field at 42 percent. They hit just four of 19n attempts from the three-point area. The Pioneers shot 60 percent from the free throw line hitting 14-of-23 attempts.
Morgan Martin sparked the Bethel four quarter comeback scoring 13 of her game high 17 points. Laurhen Pickett had 14 points and seven rebounds. Jovana Jovovic led the Pioneers with 16 points. Tristin Weeks had 12 points and a game high 13 rebounds. Whitney Moia came off the bench with 1 points. The MidAmerica Nazarene bench outscored the Bethel bench 20-9.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "The end of the third quarter was a huge factor in the game. We took some ill-advised shots and made some critical mistakes which allowed them to add to their lead and it proved to be too much to overcome. We will continue to work on these issues and get better."
