MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Lady Wildcats staged a ferocious comeback Saturday night against Harris- Stowe but came up short falling to the visitors from St. Louis 66-64. Bethel trailed 36-26 at halftime and it proved to be too much to overcome.
A 23-12 second quarter by HSU was the difference in the game. Harris-Stowe shot 46 percent from the field going 27-of-58 from the floor. Bethel shot 35 percent hitting 22-of 62 shots. The Lady Wildcats hit just 4-of- 23 attempts from three-point range.
HSU had 29 turnovers in the game but had a huge advantage in rebounding with a 44-24 edge on the glass.
Brionna Taylor led HSU with 16 points. Angela Randall had 15 for HSU which improved to 2-1 on the season. The No. 10 Lady Wildcats fell to 1-1.
Shamon Pearson led Bethel with 16 points while freshman Bri Fields followed with 15 points on the night.
Coach Chris Nelson commented, "This is a tough home loss tonight but we will grow from it. Hats off to Harris Stowe which is an ultra-talented team who I feel will find themselves in the hunt for it in March. We showed a lot of character in the third period and really battled on a night where we didn't hit our three point shots or free throws. We didn't do things down the stretch to win big games by missing some scout assignments execution and huge rebounds. We will regroup and put the pieces to the puzzle together and move on. We don't have a choice but to bounce back."
