Great Effort Propels Volley Cats to Semifinals of MSC Women’s Volleyball Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –After beating Pikeville 3-0 in the opening round Thursday afternoon of the MSC Tournament, the Bethel Lady Wildcats reached back for even more (No pun intended) Thursday night and upset the No. 3 seeded Thomas More Saints 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The opening round and quarterfinals took place at Ephram White Gym. The semifinals on Friday and the championship match on Saturday will be played at Bowling Green High School.

The sixth-seeded Bethel Wildcats ran their record to 22-9 with the victory.

The Cats won 25-21, 21-25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-12. The win avenged a 3-2 regular season loss to the Saints.

Everyone played well for the Wildcats. Hannah McGowan had 20 kills and 10 digs. Kameshia Moxley had 15 kills. Dominika Skoneczna had 11 kills. Nayeli Vilchez was big in the match with 47 assists. Ashely Sommerfeld contributed with 10 kills while Sami Parker had 12 digs.

The Cats will meet No. 2 seeded Cumberland University 8 p.m. in the semifinals. Cumberland (22-7) defeated Shawnee State in their quarterfinal match. The other match-up will see No. 1 seeded Campbellsville meeting No. 4 seeded Lindsey Wilson at 5:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as there are other activities taking place at the high school. 

Bethel and Cumberland split during the regular season with Bethel winning in McKenzie 3-2 and falling in Lebanon 3-0.

The championship match is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on Saturday at Bowling Green High School.
