Volley Cats Fall to FHU in Home Opener

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After nine road games, the Bethel Lady Wildcats finally played a home match Tuesday night playing host to rival Freed -Hardeman. It was the conference opener for both squads.

 A huge crowd with a boisterous student body turned out to support the Cats. It was a typical BU/FHU affair.

The first set saw the Lions pull away and win 25-15. The second set was nip and tuck. The Cats took their first lead at 16-15 but FHU battled back and won 26-24. Bethel took a hard fought third set, winning 25-22. The Lions put the match away however, taking the fourth set 25-17.

Hannah McGowan led Bethel with 20 kills and 10 digs. Dominika Skoneczna had 11 kills. Nayeli Vilchez had 36 assists. Alex Lipsey and Sami Parker finished with 13 digs each while Madelyn Woods followed with 10 digs.

Bethel dropped to 8-2 and 0-1. FHU improved to 7-3 and 1-0. The Lions have won six of their last seven.

Bethel returns to action Tuesday traveling to Campbellsville University. Action begins at 6 p.m. CST.
