Volley Cats Open Season With Two Wins in Vette City Classic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats opened their 2022 season Friday in the Vette City Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Bethel is one of five MSC squads participating in the 20-team field.

In the first of four weekend matches, the Cats swept Reinhardt 3-0, winning 25-15, 25-17 and 25-12.

Dominika Skonerczna led the Cats with 11 kills and 10 digs. Hannah McGowan was solid as always with 17 digs. Sami Parker was in double figures with 11 digs. Nayeli Vilchez had a sensational effort with 29 assists.

After a few hours of rest the Wildcats met Truett McConnell and again completed a 3-0 sweep, winning 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20.

Vilchez had a career high 37 assists. McGowan finished with 10 kills and nine digs. Kameshia Moxley had 11 kills and seven digs.

Coach Starla Cupples was pleased with her team's play and effort. "It was a successful day one. I'm proud of the ladies for the work they put in to make today happen. Our defense was great and really helped our offense make big plays. We'll rest tonight and refocus for our games tomorrow."  

Bethel returns to action Saturday facing Union College at 2 p.m. The Cats wrap up play Saturday night at 7 p.m. versus Indiana Southeast.
