Volley Cats open Season with Win in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats opened their season Friday in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Vette City Classic.

Bethel beat Union College in a tight match from start to finish, winning 3-2. Bethel won 22-25, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-10.

A balanced attack was the key for Bethel. Hannah McGowan led the Cats with 19 kills and 21 digs. Addison Coulter had 14 kills while Kameshia Moxley followed with 12 kills. Newcomer Nayeli Vilchez had eight kills and 12 digs. Sami Parker pitched in with 13 digs while Madelyn Woods had 10 digs.

Coach Starla Cupples was pleased with the season opening victory. "We are happy to get this first win.  There are things we will work on to better in our remaining games here. We had some great swings and I thought our defense was scrappy and excellent when we really needed it to be."

Bethel meets Florida College at 2 p.m. Friday.

Saturday the Lady Wildcats meet Brescia at 4:30 p.m. and close out the weekend meeting Indiana-Southeast at 7 p.m. The matches are being  played at the Ephram White Gym.
