Volley Cats open Season Friday in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It was not a typical season last year for the Bethel University Volleyball program. The 2020-2021 spring season concluded with an 11-12 overall record. The Lady Cats finished 7-9 in the MSC. Although not a typical season, the competition did allow the team to learn new opponents in the Mid-South Conference.
Individually, Hannah McGowan was selected 1st team All-Conference. The court sophomore was 3rd in the MSC with 4.0 kills per set and 16th in digs with 3.5 per set. Addison Coulter was an Honorable Mention selection. She ranked 4th in the MSC in blocks per set with 0.9 and 9th in total blocks with 77.
This season the team will return those familiar faces as well as add new talent to the mix. Newcomers to watch include junior transfer Nayeli Vilchez at the setter position, outside hitter Dominika Skoneczna, middle blocker Lydia Dykes, and setter Brookelyn Davis.
The Lady Cats look to get back to their high standard this year which opens at the Vette Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky Friday and Saturday.
Bethel meets Union College at 9 a.m. Friday. Later that day they meet Florida College at 2 p.m. Saturday the Lady Wildcats meet Brescia at 4:30 p.m. and close out the weekend meeting Indiana-Southeast at 7 p.m. The matches will be played at the Ephram White Gym.
Coach Cupples enters her 17th season at the helm of the Lady Wildcats. She is 274-236 at the school. Cupples commented, "The spring 2021 season was one of acclimation to the new conference. It gave us an opportunity to see the style of play and level of each team. We are looking forward to the new season and what this team can accomplish."
