Lady Cats Advance to MSC Tennis Quarterfinals
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The 2023 Mid-South Conference Women's Tennis Tournament began on Thursday with the opening round at the Warren County Tennis and Sport Facility.
Bethel, Georgetown and Thomas More all won on Thursday to advance to Friday's Quarterfinals.
No. 8 Georgetown defeats No. 9 Freed-Hardeman 4-3
Georgetown's Bailey Martin and Samanthan Spady defeated Elise Kruzan and Morgan Brown 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Freed-Hardeman tied up doubles when Vicky Rodriguez-Lugo and Hannah Pearce defeated Madelyn Gill and Hana Dixon 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In the decisive doubles match, Lydia Prince and Emma Hill secured the point for the Tigers with a 6-2 victory over Michelle Lancaster and Julianna Alves 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Spady gave Georgetown a 2-0 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kruzan at No. 3 singles. Madelyn Gill increased the Tigers lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rodriguez-Lugo at No. 4 singles.
Morgan Brown got the first point for Freed-Hardeman with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Prince at No. 5 singles. The Lions cut the deficit to 3-2 when Pearce defeated Abby Moss 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. Alves tied the match with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Hill at No. 2 singles.
Martin won the match for Georgetown with a 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 victory over Lancaster at No. 1 singles.
Georgetown will face top-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday at 9 a.m. CT.
No. 7 Bethel defeats No. 10 Pikeville 4-0
Bethel's Edisa Hot and Sofija Rajic defeated Katharina Steib and Sara Contreras 6-0 at No. 3 doubles. The Wildcats clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory from Tijana Sviltica and Marina Zotelli at No. 1 doubles.
Sviltica gave Bethel a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Elizabeth Davis at No. 2 singles. The Wildcats increased their lead to 3-0 after Pikeville had to retire at No. 5 singles. Rajic clinched the victory for Bethel with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Steib at No. 4 singles.
The Wildcats will face No. 2 seed Lindsey Wilson at 3 p.m. CT.
No. 6 Thomas More defeats No. 11 Shawnee State 4-0
Thomas More's Noelia Martinez Garcia and Dakota Schroeder defeated Antonia Ilea and McKenzie Harman 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The Saints clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles by Kimberly Sabga and Cassie Saner.
Garcia gave the Saints a 2-0 lead in the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ilea at No. 3 singles. Sabga defeated Brooklyn Fouse at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1. Alexis Covington clinched the match for Thomas More with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against Lacey Urban.
The Saints will face No. 3 seed Campbellsville at 6 p.m. CT.
