Tennis Cats Hit Road for First Spring Matches
MIDWAY, Ky. – The Bethel University men's and women's tennis teams hit the road for their first matches of the spring season this past weekend.
The men's team dropped their first match of the semester to Midway College.
The women's squad moved to 2-0 with a win over Midway. The Lady Cats had also won a fall match over Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Wildcats had a very competitive match. Juan Hernandez and Arthur Trigno won their doubles match by a score of 6-3. In the singles everyone competed hard but came up short. Trigno went to a Super-tie break to decide the match and came up short losing 9-11 in the break.
The Lady Cats took care of business winning 5-2. Bethel came out of the gates swinging by taking the double's points at the two and three spots. Edisa Hot and Sofija Rajic won 6-0 in the two spot. In the three spot, Sophia Vasconcellos and Kelsie Seiber came out victorious winning 6-3. Heading to singles play it's always huge to take that point. Hot took the win at two winning 6-0 and 6-1. Rajic took the next win at five by a score of 6-0 and 6-1. Vasconcello picked up the fourth point and clinched the win by a score of 6-1 and 6-0. Marina Zotelli picked up the final point for the Cats with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Coach Derrick Hubble said, "I was very pleased with our team's effort on Saturday. The team will continue to grow and get stronger as the year continues. I look forward to the ride these young people will take this team on. We will stay the course and I remain excited about our future."
