Lady Cats Fall to Shawnee State in MSC Tournament
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The 8th seeded Bethel Lady Wildcats met the 9th seeded Shawnee State Bears in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament Monday in McKenzie.
Shawnee State's Brennan Woodard scored at the 4:10 mark of the first. When Bethel goalkeeper Shanay Ricketts came out to challenge, the ball was deflected, and Woodard found an empty net from 20 yards out.
That score held up for the first period as the squads went to the break with the Bears holding a 1-0 lead.
The only score of the second period was a goal by Shawnee State's Eilidh McHattie. The score came with just 27 seconds left and the Bears left McKenzie with a 2-0 victory. SSU had an 8-3 advantage in total shots and a 2-0 margin in shots on goal.
SSU improved to 8-11 and will advance to play Tennessee Southern later this week in the quarterfinals.
Bethel's season ended at 6-10.
