Lady Cats Suffer Tough Loss to Cumberland

Lady Cats Fall in overtime to No. 18 Phoenix

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats looked to bounce back after a loss at Thomas More with a home match against No. 18 Cumberland University Wednesday.

The teams battled to a scoreless first half. Both squads had their opportunities but failed to connect. Bethel had an 8-7 margin in shots in the period. CU had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. 

The Lady Cats took the lead at the 25:40 mark of the second stanza on a goal by Ashari Bowen. Bowen knocked it in after her first shot was deflected and came right back to her at the top of the box. The Phoenix tied it on a goal by Macy Douglas with 16 minutes left. Emma Lucas had the assist. 

Neither team could break through in regulation and they went to overtime tied at one each. 

Cumberland would win on a goal by Douglas with 3:56 left in the overtime. The assist on the golden goal was by Jenifer Segura.

Bethel finished with a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal. Cumberland outshot the Wildcats, 19-15.

Bethel's Shanay Ricketts had 11 saves in the match.    

Bethel dropped to 3-4 and 1-2 in the MSC. The Phoenix improved to 6-1-1 and 2-0-1.  

The Lady Cats jump right back into action Saturday with a visit to UT Southern. Action in Pulaski begins at 2 p.m.
