Women’s Golf Wins Atomic City Classic

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats captured their second tournament title of the year Tuesday winning the Atomic City Classic in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

The two-day 36-hole tournament was played at two different venues. The five-team field played Monday at the par 72, 5, 840-yard layout at the Oak Ridge Country Club. They played Tuesday's round at the par 72, 5, 420 Centennial Course.

The Cats were tied for the lead with Spartanburg Methodist after the first round but answered the bell in the frigid temperatures winning with a team total of 663. They won by twenty strokes. It was 31 degrees when the teams began play Tuesday morning 

Albane Le Helloco led the Cats shooting 75, 76 and was the medalist in the field. Shelsea Vera also made the all-tournament team finishing third after rounds of 83, 81. Tessa Meyers was a key Tuesday firing an 83 after shooting an 88 Monday. Hope Homar (86, 95) Sasha Guinsbourg (89,91) and Samantha McCaslin (116, 126) also had good efforts enabling the team to win the title.

Coach Larry Joe Smith was proud of his team. "I am really pleased with this team's mentality and their will to win. Despite the cold and conditions, they never wavered and won. I am really proud of them and excited what the future holds for us."
