Lady Cats Use Defense & Bench to Beat Cumberland in Lebanon
LEBANON, Tenn. – The No. 12 Bethel Lady Wildcats traveled to Lebanon Thursday night to meet the Phoenix of Cumberland University.
Despite a cold shooting night, the Lady Cats prevailed beating the home team 65-53.
Bethel shot just 25 percent from the floor through the first three quarters but still led 43-29.
Bethel's defense and bench production were key factors in the victory. The Lady Cats shot just 29 percent from the floor but made 13-of-40 three-point attempts. The Cats forced CU into 19 turnovers and scored 25 points off those CU mistakes.
Bethel had a 23-9 margin in bench points.
Seven Bethel players scored seven or more points with Micah Hart scoring a team high ten points.
The Lady Cats moved to 19-4 overall and 4-4 in the MSC.
Cumberland suffered their eighth straight loss and dropped to 8-14 and 0-7.
Bethel now leads the series 13-9 and is 5-4 in games played in Lebanon.
The Lady Cats return home to face No. 8 Freed-Hardeman Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lions are 20-3 after beating No. 3 Campbellsville 62-52 on Thursday night in Campbellsville.
Freed edged the Cats 68-65 on January 11 in Henderson.
