Lady Wildcats Continue to Surge Forward
MARIETTA, Georgia- The No. 16 Bethel Lady Wildcats jumped back on the road again this week traveling to Marietta, Georgia, and Life University for two games this weekend.
The Lady Cats remained unbeaten on Friday beating Brewton-Parker 69-58. Bethel moved to 11-0 which is the best start in program history. Bethel is 4-0 all-time versus the Barons.
After leading 25-22 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Cats extended their lead to 38-28 at the half.
BPU outscored the Cats 20-16 to pull to within 54-48 at the end of three. The Barons fought back to tie the game at 56 with 6:52 remaining in the game. Micah Hart scored six of Bethel's next eight points. Kylie Reynolds scored five points down the stretch as Bethel pulled away to win by eleven.
Micah Hart had a game high 26 points. Madison Hart finished with 12 points. Reynolds and Mikee Buchanan each had 11 points. Buchanan had seven rebounds.
After being outrebounded 21-16 in the first half, the Lady Cats finished with a 43-41 advantage on the boards in the game.
Bethel shot 39 percent from the field and had 10 threes in the win. BPU shot 40 percent from the floor but hit only three treys. The Barons struggled from the charity stripe, going 7-of-16 from the line.
Sydney Beasley led BPU with 24 points.
It was the second win over BPU on the season. The Lady Wildcats beat the Barons earlier this season 77-43 in the Campbellsville Classic in November. The Barons are 5-6 on the year.
Coach Chris Nelson said, "First, hats off to Brewton Parker for being prepared and making us uncomfortable through stretches of the game. We did some good things tonight, but we have to be better communicators in all aspects of the game. Our offense flows well at times and at others it is extremely stagnant. We have a lot of fire power on the offensive end, but we need to continue to lean on getting stops on the defensive end. We have another good challenge tomorrow prior to our Christmas break."
The Lady Cats meet Life on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
Bethel is 6-0 all-time against Life.
Life is 8-5 on the season. The Eagles lost to Freed-Hardeman 67-45 in the late game Friday.
