OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats jumped out to a first quarter lead (20-10) and built on that margin in the second quarter to lead comfortably 53-22 at the half over the Brecia Bearcats in Owensboro Tuesday night.
Bethel would cruise to an impressive 87-61 victory to move to 4-0 while Brescia suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1 on the season.
Freshman Micah Hart was sensational with 32 points, a game high eight rebounds, and two assists. Madison Hart finished with 12 points. Eleven different players scored for Bethel with nine of those scoring five or more. Bethel hit 12 three-pointers and was 17-of-25 from the free throw line. Brescia nailed 21- of- 22 free throw attempts.
Bethel's defense played a huge part in the game forcing the Bearcats into 25 turnovers. The Cats had a 38-11 advantage in points off turnovers. Bethel had a 38-33 margin in rebounds.
Coach Chris Nelson spoke about the road victory. "I thought our kids came out ready to play tonight and I feel it's show their maturity. Our first half was solid on both ends of the floor and we really created for each other in the half court. The second half I thought was mudded up with too many foul calls. There was no flow to the game. Brescia plays extremely hard, but our kids were able to keep their composure. We are excited for a big road trip coming up."
