Lady Wildcats Dominate in Campbellsville Classic: A Convincing Win Over Brewton-Parker

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. - The Bethel Lady Wildcats took to the court at Powell Gym on a bright Friday afternoon for a showdown against their old Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) rivals, the Brewton-Parker Barons, in the Campbellsville Classic. With the tip-off scheduled for high noon, the Lady Cats were ready to show their grit and determination.

The first half was a hard-fought battle. The Lady Wildcats, though determined, struggled to find their rhythm against a tough Brewton-Parker defense. The Barons were scrappy, creating some early turnovers and forcing Bethel into some tough shots. But despite the adversity, the Lady Cats held their ground, taking a slim 33-26 lead into the locker room at the half.

Tough But Steady First Half

It was a tough first half for the Wildcats, but they finished strong, finding a few key moments of brilliance to give them an edge. Freshman, Micah Hart was a force to be reckoned with, contributing across the board with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. She was the catalyst for Bethel's offense, keeping the Lady Cats in front as the team battled through some first-half struggles. Her all-around game was on display, helping to set up her teammates and turning defense into offense.

Her sister, Madison Hart, chipped in with 10 points and a block, providing crucial scoring and defense. Guard Kylie Reynolds also stepped up, hitting some key shots for eight points. Hallie Turner showed her playmaking skills, finishing with eight points and four assists, keeping the flow of the offense moving with precision.

But it wasn't just the starters who were making their mark. Bethel's depth was a key factor throughout the game. Mikee Buchanan dominated the paint, scoring seven points, grabbing eight rebounds, and swatting three shots. Her presence inside was a constant challenge for Brewton-Parker's defense. Meanwhile, Kylee Alexander (six points, two rebounds) and Kyla Taylor (six points, four rebounds) provided solid contributions in the frontcourt.

The Bench Shines in the Second Half

After the break, Bethel came out strong and quickly turned the game into a showcase of their depth and scoring ability. The Lady Wildcats began to run away with it, especially in the fourth quarter. In fact, the Lady Cats' bench became a key factor in the blowout.

Allison Spieker added six points off the bench, while Lauren Bryant scored three. Karmen Frost, though limited in minutes, added two points and grabbed three rebounds. Bethel's depth was undeniable, with 29 points coming from their reserves, a major factor in their success.

With the game well in hand, the Wildcats continued to execute their game plan to near perfection. The team finished the game with a 77-43 victory, improving their record to 2-0 and showing their strength on both ends of the floor.

BPU dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Statistical Dominance

The Lady Wildcats shot an impressive 43.5% from the field, hitting 30 of 69 attempts. They were especially efficient from beyond the arc, shooting 60% (6 of 10) from three-point range. At the defensive end, Bethel took advantage of Brewton-Parker's 22 turnovers, scoring 26 points off those mistakes. The Lady Cats also outrebounded the Barons 40-38, ensuring they controlled the glass.

But it wasn't just the starting five that made an impact—Bethel's ability to dominate inside the paint was another highlight. The Wildcats scored 36 points in the paint, asserting their physicality and strength around the basket. Their aggressive defense and quick transition play created easy opportunities for fast-break points and open shots.

 A Strong Statement for Bethel

The Lady Wildcats' victory over Brewton-Parker was a complete team effort. With contributions from all corners of the roster and strong performances from both the starters and the bench, Bethel demonstrated that they are a team to watch. They played tough defense, executed their offensive game plan, and dominated the glass, finishing with an impressive win in their first game of the Campbellsville Classic.

Coach Chris Nelson was pleased with the win. "We are happy to get a nice win against another National Tournament team from last year. Brewton Parker has some really nice pieces and are very physical on the glass and can really muddle things up. It was a total team effort with some key folks stepping up for us throughout the game. I thought KT really gave us the spark off the bench we needed on both ends of the floor. She is a 5th year senior, and her efforts really shined today when we needed it most. Our team has a lot of depth to it and numerous players can step up on different nights. It was good to get everyone in and get some valuable minutes for some players that have been putting the work in."

Nelson added, "We will enjoy this one for the evening and then get ready for another nice challenge tomorrow."

The Wildcats now head into the next round of the tournament with their heads held high, knowing that they have the depth, skill, and determination to compete at a high level. As the Lady Cats continue their journey in the Campbellsville Classic, one thing is clear: this is a team that's primed for success. Tomorrow they will play a tough LSU Shreveport team at 11 a.m. CST.
