Lady Wildcats Collar Bulldogs

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats returned home Thursday night for the first of two conference games before the holiday break. The Cats ran their record to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in the MSC with a 73-66 win over the Wilberforce Bulldogs. Wilberforce dropped their ninth straight and fell to 2-10 and 0-8.

Bethel moved to 151-26 all-time in Crisp Arena.

The Wildcats led by three at the end of the third quarter but pulled away to lead by as many as thirteen at 62-49 with 4:50 left in the game. That cushion proved to be enough as the Cats won by seven.

The game featured six ties and 10 lead changes.

Both teams shot 39 percent from the floor. The Cats hit five three-pointers while the Dogs knocked down seven treys. Bethel's ability to get to the foul line and hit their free throws proved to be huge factors in the game. The Lady Cats hit a blistering 89 percent from the line, knocking down 26-of-29 attempts.

Madison Hart led Bethel with a career high 31 points. Hart pulled down nine rebounds and was 9-of-11 from the line. Fellow freshman Haleigh Caviness had a career high 11 points and was 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Kalynnn Howard and Keely Morrow finished with 12 points each. Kyla Tucker had a game high 11 rebounds and nine points.

Kadai Greene -Tucker led the Bulldogs with 21 points.

Coach Chris Nelson commented, "I am pleased with the win but I thought we gave them too many easy buckets at times. We made plays when we had to. Madison was a huge key for us and her ability to get to the line was really big. Haleigh player her best game as a Wildcat. Kal knocked down some nice three's and it was good to see her get her shooting eye. We will take this win and get ready for an exceptionally talented Thomas More team Saturday."  

The Cats jump right back into action Saturday hosting No. 1 Thomas More at 1 p.m. Thomas More beat Freed-Hardeman Thursday to remain unbeaten at 13-0 and 9-0.
