Lady Wildcats Fall at Freed-Hardeman
HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats dropped their second in a row with a 72-53 loss at Freed-Hardeman Tuesday night in Henderson.
The (RV) Cats fell to 5-2 and 1-2 in MSC play. FHU improved to 6-0 and 3-0.
Bethel fell behind 19-4 before rallying with 10 unanswered points to shave the deficit to five at 19-14. The Lions would then outscore Bethel 15-12 to lead 34-26 at the half. FHU outscored the Cats 16-11 in the third to extend their lead to 50-37 after three. A 22-16 margin in the final quarter allowed the Lions to pull away and win comfortably.
A cold shooting night by Bethel proved to be their downfall. Bethel shot just 33 percent (20-59) from the floor while Freed shot 50 percent (26-52) from the field. FHU had a 40-25 advantage in rebounds and a 19-9 margin in bench points. Bethel hit 10 three-pointers but Freed answered, knocking down 13 on the night.
Keely Morrow and Kalynn Howard led Bethel with 14 points each. Madison Hart followed with 12, all of those in the second half.
Rachel Satterly was one of three Lady Lions in double figures and had a game high 29 points.
Coach Chris Nelson commented, "It was a tough night. Their zone bothered us early and we seem to play catch-up all night. We prepared for that but did not respond well at all. I was disappointed in our defense all night. We fought back but it seemed when we needed that big rebound or shot, we simply did not get it done. We finally got Madison going in the second half and another bright spot was Kalynn shooting the ball well outside. We have to come together and get ready for two tough games in Montgomery."
Bethel returns to action this weekend in the Faulkner Classic in Montgomery. They meet (RV) Reinhardt at 2 p.m. Saturday and they face (RV) Faulkner Sunday at 2 p.m.
