Lady Wildcats Battle Pikeville at Home Saturday
The Bethel Lady Wildcats play their fifth home game this month when they entertain conference foe Pikeville Saturday at 1 p.m. in Crisp Arena. Both teams received votes in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll.
The Lady Wildcats are unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 4-0 on their home court this season. Bethel defeated visiting Shawnee State 82-58 in the conference opener Thursday. Five Lady Cats scored in double figures led by Keely Morrow with 18 points and four 3-pointers. Alyia Lee (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Kyla Taylor (11 points, 10 rebounds) tallied double-doubles in the win. Bethel shot 51 percent from the floor and outrebounded Shawnee State 45-24. The Lady Wildcats held their opponent to 27 percent shooting.
Pikeville is 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. The Bears are 2-1 in road games. UPIKE comes off a 67-63 overtime loss at Freed-Hardeman Thursday. Mary Englert was high scorer for the Bears with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bailey Frazier added 15 points, and Morgan Stamper scored 12. Prior to the loss in Henderson, Pikeville began its conference slate with a 73-60 win over Lindsey Wilson on Nov. 11.
It is the seventh meeting between the two programs. Pikeville leads the series 4-2 and has a 2-1 advantage in games played in McKenzie. The Lady Wildcats and Bears split last season with UPIKE winning 75-61 in Pikeville and Bethel winning 60-50 in McKenzie.
Bethel is 149-25 all-time in Crisp Arena.
Morrow averages 14.8 points per contest and scored 43 points over Bethel's last two games. Alyia Lee contributes 14.0 points and 12.2 rebounds per outing and has four double-doubles this season.
Bethel averages 78.2 points and yields 59.6 points per game. BU is outrebounding their opponents 36-26 per contest. The Lady Wildcats are shooting 48 percent from the floor and averaging 16 assists and six steals per game.
Pikeville averages 75.8 points and yields 74.5 points per contest. The Bears shoot 43 percent from the field and outrebound their competition 40-38 per outing.
UPIKE has four players averaging more than 10 points per game. Mary Englert leads the team in scoring at 17.0 per game. Sierra Feltner adds 16.3 points per contest. Morgan Stamper tallies 11.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Bailey Frazier is good for 11.0 points on average.
