Lady Wildcats Open Season with Home Win in COC Classic
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –Behind the efforts of several newcomers, the (RV) Bethel women's basketball team opened their season Friday night with an 85-70 victory over Brescia in the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Classic.
Newcomers Madison Hart, Alyia Lee and Alayna Anderson led the offensive attack, each scoring in double figures. Hart had 24 in her freshman debut. Transfer Lee had a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Anderson finished with 11 points.
Lindsey Peyton led Brescia with 14 points.
Bethel led 49-30 at halftime. The Cats shot 62 percent in the half. They finished the game at 49 percent from the field.
The Wildcats had a 44-26 advantage in rebounding. Bethel had a 48-30 margin in points in the paint.
Bethel remained unbeaten in the series. They are 12-0 versus the Bearcats. Brescia is 0-3 on the season.
Coach Chris Nelson commented in a postgame interview. "I was pleased with a lot of things we did tonight. Our new faces stepped up under the lights big time. We will continue to mesh as a group, continue to get healthy and we expect big things down the road."
Bethel will close out the event Saturday at 3 p.m. versus UHSP. Campbellsville and Brescia will play at 1 p.m. UHSP lost to Campbellsville 85-50 in the early game Friday. UHSP is 1-1 on the year.
Tickets will be available at the door and be handled by the Chamber of Commerce staff.
Due to Bethel football, there will be no local radio coverage for the games.
