Lady Wildcats Fall to Tigers in MSC Quarterfinals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - No. 4 seed Georgetown (Ky.) defeated fifth-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) 63-59 in the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball quarterfinals at Bowling Green Arena.
The Tigers (21-10) advance to Sunday's semifinals where they will take on eighth-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Georgetown's Jazzmyn Elston was named the H&W Sports Player of the Game. Elston scored a team-high 21 points while recording six rebounds.
Callie Jackson and Grace White were the other two Tigers in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
With the score tied at four, Georgetown then went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. Bethel answered back scoring the next four points to trim the Tigers lead to 9-8 with 4:24 to play in the first quarter. The Tigers ended the first quarter on a 7-2 run to lead 16-10 after one. Georgetown shot 45.5 percent in the first and limited Bethel to just 23.5 percent.
Bethel opened up the second quarter scoring nine of the first 11 points to lead 19-18 with 5:53 remaining in the half. The Tigers then retook the lead 26-20 with 3:28 in the half after scoring eight of the next nine points. Following a Bethel basket that made it 26-22, Georgetown ended the first half on a 7-2 run to lead 33-24.
Georgetown finished the first half shooting 41.7 percent from the field while Bethel shot 30.3. The Tigers were led by Darnell who scored 10 points in the first 20 minutes. The Wildcats were led by Millie Bryant in the first half who scored 10 points.
Bethel cut the Georgetown lead to 34-31 after opening the third quarter on a 7-1 run. The Tigers would respond scoring six of the next eight points to lead 40-33 with 4:32 to play in the third quarter. Bethel then scored eight of the next 10 points to trim the Georgetown lead to 42-41 with 2:37 to play in the quarter. Trailing 45-41, the Wildcats ended the quarter on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 47.
The Wildcats opened the fourth quarter on a 7-1 run to jump in front 54-48 with 5:46 to play. An Elston and-one trimmed the Bethel lead to 54-51 with 5:35 to play. After a Jenna Foust three gave the Wildcats a 57-51 lead, the Tigers ended the game on a 12-2 run to come away with the 63-59 victory. The Lady Wildcats did not have a field goal for over five minutes in that span of time.
Foust led the Wildcats with a game-high 22 points. Millie Bryant was the other Bethel player to record double-digit points with 15.
The Lady Cats were hampered by foul trouble. Keely Morrow, Mickey Head and Kyla Taylor all fouled out in the final quarter. Georgetown was 22-of-26 from the foul line while Bethel was 6-of-9 from the charity stripe. The Tigers had a 35-32 rebound advantage.
Bethel dropped to 19-13 and will wait until next week to see if they get a bid to the NAIA National Tournament. The field will be made up of 64 teams which will be announced Wednesday.
