Lady Cats Begin Three Game Road Trek

Portsmouth, OH- The Bethel Lady Wildcats begin a three-game road trek with a visit to MSC foe Shawnee State Thursday night. Tip-off is slated for   5 p.m. CST.

The Lady Cats take a 15-10 overall mark to Ohio. Bethel is 9-8 in the MSC.

The Lady Wildcats outscored Freed-Hardeman 33-17 in the second half Monday night and knocked off the Lady Lions 59-44 in Crisp Arena. Bethel had trailed 27-26 at halftime. It was Bethel's fourth straight win. The Cats have won six of their last seven. With their current win streak, the Lady Cats received votes in the recent NAIA Women's Top 25 Poll.

SSU has lost five in a row and is 4-15 and 3-12. The Bears are 1-6 at home while Bethel is 2-6 on the road this year.

It will be the fifth meeting between the two with Bethel leading the series 4-0.  

Back in January Bethel's defense held SSU to just 31 percent from the floor in their 80-52 win. The Lady Cats hit 13 three-pointers. Bethel had a 37-32 advantage in rebounding. The Wildcats remained unbeaten when winning the battle of the boards. They are 8-0 when that occurs. Bethel's Kyla Taylor pulled down a career high 16 rebounds. Taylor started the game in place of senior Mickey Head who sat out the game. Bethel also played without Keely Morrow

Ryann Roberts knocked down five three pointers and finished with a team high 22 points. Jenna Foust had 11 points while freshman Kalynn Howard was in double digits with 10 tallies.

Marnae Holland had a game high 23 points for Shawnee State.

Millie Bryant enters the game with 1,322 career points and 611 career rebounds. She is 10th in program history in scoring and 10th in career rebounds. Earlier this season she became just the 10th Lady Cat to score 1,000 points or more and collect 500 rebounds or more

Mickey Head enters the contest with 853 career rebounds and 266 career blocks. She has 1, 236 career points with 753 of those as a Lady Wildcat.

Coach Chris Nelson commented on the pending road affairs. "We have been playing well but we need to maintain our focus as we face these games. Every road game in this conference is a challenge. We expect we will have to play well in each game. I like my team and the way we are playing together. We are excited about getting back out on the court."

After Shawnee, the Lady Wildcats visit No. 2 Thomas More Saturday and rival Tennessee Southern Monday.
