Lady Wildcats Fall at Cumberland University
LEBANON, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats suffered a disappointing loss at Cumberland University Thursday night, falling to the Phoenix 62-55. It was the first time on the season Bethel has lost after leading at the half.
Bethel dropped to 11-10 on the season. The Cats fell to 5-8 in the MSC. CU snapped a three-game losing streak and moved to 8-10 and 3-8.
Both teams jumped out of the gate red hot. Bethel shot 71 percent in the first 10 minutes. The Phoenix shot 64 percent in the quarter. CU used great free throw shooting as they were 7-of-7 from the foul line. That effort propelled them to a 23-21 at the end of the quarter.
Both squads struggled from the field in the second quarter. Bethel did manage to lead at the break after the Wildcats outscored CU 11-6 in the frame.
Cumberland outscored Bethel 12-2 to open the third quarter and grabbed a 41-32 advantage. Bethel answered with a 11-1 margin to lead 43-42. CU would go on to lead however 46-44 heading into the fourth.
The Phoenix outscored Bethel 16-11 in the final quarter to win.
Bethel would shoot 44 percent from the floor and hit just 3-of-17 three-point attempts. The Cats were 6-of-10 from the foul line. CU shot 47 percent and hit four three-pointers. They were 14-of-18 from the foul line. Each team had 15 turnovers in the game. CU had a 31-27 margin in rebounding.
Mickey Head led Bethel with 12 points. Millie Bryant had 11 points while Jenna Foust finished with 11 points.
Tyra Johnson had a game high 23 points for CU.
Bethel remains on the road with a Saturday afternoon tilt at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. CST.

Lindsey Wilson released the following statement about fan attendance for those games.
"In order to reduce capacity and socially distance in our gym, we are now requiring home and visiting fans to be on a pass list to attend our basketball games. Visiting teams will be allowed up to 50 fans for single games and 75 for doubleheaders."

Admission is $ 10.00. Only individuals on the pass list will be allowed to attend the game. Face masks are required to enter the gym and must be worn correctly while in the building.
