Another Set of Tigers Invades Crisp Arena Saturday

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - Fresh off their 61-50 upset victory over No. 3 Campbellsville, the Bethel Lady Wildcats look to continue their momentum Saturday hosting another set of Tigers when Georgetown comes calling at 2 p.m. CST

The Cats enter the MSC match-up at 10-9 and 4-7 in the league.  The Tigers suffered an 86-68 loss at Freed-Hardeman and will come to McKenzie angry at 13-6 and 6-5. GC is 5-3 in road action and will face a program that is 137-23 all-time in Crisp. It will be the fourth meeting between the two with GC leading the series 2-1.

The squads met back in early December with the Tigers prevailing 69-52.

Senior Millie Bryant tossed in 11 first quarter points which enabled Bethel to lead 15-13 after the first ten minutes. The Tigers outscored the Cats 16-6 in the second and grabbed a 29-21 margin at halftime. Georgetown continued their momentum in the third and led 53-32 at the end of the three.

Bethel was 21-of-53 from the floor at 39 percent. The Cats hit only four three-pointers on 18 attempts. GC was 28-of-64 from the field at 43 percent. The Tigers struggled from outside hitting just four treys on 19 attempts. GC had a 36-32 rebound advantage.

Bryant had a career high 32 points and collected eight rebounds. Mickey Head had eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Izzy Lamparty led the Tigers with 18 points.

The Wildcats are averaging 67.1 points and yielding 60.2 points per outing.

Ryann Roberts leads Bethel in scoring averaging 14.4 points per game. Bryant follows at 14.2 points per outing. Keely Morrow is in double figures at 11.9.

Bryant enters the game with 1,250 career points and 567 career rebounds. She is 11th in program history in scoring and 11th in career rebounds. Earlier this season she became just the 10th Lady Cat to score 1,000 points or more and collect 500 rebounds or more.  Bryant passed former Bethel great Teena Carter for 11th in scoring with her 13-point effort against Campbellsville Thursday.  

Head enters the game with 810 career rebounds and 251 career blocks. She has 1, 181 career points with 699 of those as a Lady Wildcat.

Bethel shoots 40 percent from the field while their opponents are at 37 percent from the floor. Bethel hits 33 percent of their three-point attempts. The opponents are at 34 percent. Bethel shoots 71 percent from the foul line while opponents shoot 66 percent.

Bethel has a 33-31 advantage in outrebounding their opponents per outing.

Bethel is 9-1 when they outshoot their opponents.

The Cats are 9-3 when they hit more three-pointers.

The Lady Cats are 8-0 when they outrebound their opponents.

Bethel is 10-0 when leading at the half.

The Cats are 6-7 when they have less turnovers.

Coach Chris Nelson is in his 16th season as head coach of the Lady Cats. He is 339-164 and 15th in wins among active coaches in the NAIA.

Georgetown averages 80.1 and yields 63.7 points per game. The Tigers have seven players who average nine points or more per game.

Jeff Nickel, after an outstanding run at Shawnee State, is in his first year as head coach of the Tigers. His milestones at Shawnee State include:  Five MSC tournament titles; three MSC regular season titles; eight straight NAIA national tournament appearances; took SSU to its first No. 1 ranking; 18 NAIA All-Americans.
