Lady Cats Host 3rd Ranked Campbellsville

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –After a hard fought six-point loss at the University of the Cumberlands Tuesday night, the Bethel Lady Wildcats return home to host 3rd ranked Campbellsville Thursday at 6 p.m. 

The Cats enter the MSC match-up at 9-9 and 3-7 in the league. The Tigers arrive in McKenzie with a 16-1 mark. Campbellsville is 8-1 in the league and 4-1 in road action. Bethel is 8-3 at home on the year and 136-23 all-time in Crisp Arena.

Campbellsville leads the all-time series 14-2 and holds a 5-2 lead in games played in McKenzie.

The then No. 1 Tigers defeated the Cats 71-64 back in early December. Bethel hung tough, especially in the second half but dropped to 0-6 all-time in Taylor County. The remodeled basketball court within the Powell Athletic Center was dedicated to legendary Campbellsville women's basketball head coach Dr. Donna Wise before the game.

The Lady Cats led 11-6 but Campbellsville used an 18 -8 run to close out the first quarter to take a 24-19 lead at the end of the stanza. Ashton Hulme led Bethel with eight points in the quarter.

Campbellsville used a 10-0 run to lead 40-24 in the second but Bethel rallied to stay in the game. Keely Morrow was a big factor, scoring 11 first half points. Hulme finished the half with 10 points. Campbellsville shot 60 percent in the half and led 45-34 at the break. Both teams hit seven three-pointers in the first twenty minutes.

The Cats outscored CU 20-16 in the third to pull within 61-54 after three. Morrow finished the quarter with 19 points.

Bethel continued their surge in the fourth. Freshman Kalynn Howard hit two huge three-pointers in the quarter, the last came with five minutes left to pull the Cats to within 68-64. Several late turnovers hurt Bethel however, and they could never close the gap.

Bethel was 21-of-55 from the field at 38 percent. They finished with nine 12 three-pointers. CU was 27-of-56 at 48 percent from the floor and finished with nine made treys. The Tigers had a 33-25 rebound advantage.

Morrow led Bethel with 19 points. Millie Bryant had 14 points and five rebounds. Hulme had 13 points while Howard finished with 12 tallies.

Five Lady Tigers finished in double figures with Sarah Sutton leading her squad with 15 points.

The Wildcats are averaging 67.4 points and yielding 60.7 points per outing.

Ryann Roberts leads Bethel in scoring averaging 14.6 points per game. Bryant follows at 14.3 points per outing.

Bryant enters the game with 1,237 career points and 563 career rebounds. She is 12th in program history in scoring and 11th in career rebounds. Earlier this season she became just the 10th Lady Cat to score 1,000 points or more and collect 500 rebounds or more. Morrow is good for 12.2 points per game.  Combining her play at Martin Methodist and Bethel, senior Mickey Head enters the game with 803 career rebounds and 248 career blocks. She has 1, 167 career points with 685 of those as a Lady Wildcat. Head's seven blocks versus Thomas More recently tied the single game record for most blocks in a game. Head tied Laurhen Pickett who had held the record.

Bethel shoots 39 percent from the field while their opponents are at 37 percent from the floor. Bethel hits 33 percent of their three-point attempts. The opponents are at 34 percent. Bethel shoots 71 percent from the foul line while opponents shoot 65 percent.

Bethel has a 33-31 advantage in outrebounding their opponents per outing.

Bethel is 8-1 when they outshoot their opponents.

The Cats are 8-3 when they hit more three-pointers.

The Lady Cats are 8-0 when they outrebound their opponents.

Bethel is 9-0 when leading at the half.

The Cats are 5-7 when they have less turnovers.

Coach Chris Nelson is in his 16th season as head coach of the Lady Cats. He is 338-164 and 15th in wins among active coaches in the NAIA.

Campbellsville averages 80.9 and yields 60.5 points per game.

The Tigers are led in scoring by Ashlee McGeorge who averages 10.7 points per game. Seven Tigers average seven points or more per game. 

Ginger High Colvin is in her 15th year as head coach of the Tigers. She is in her 29th year with the program. She has a 400-91 mark with Campbellsville.
