Junior College Standout Inks with Lady Wildcats

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Coach Chris Nelson reached into the junior college ranks signing Pearl River Community College standout Tyasia Willis recently. She is the daughter of Shantay Willis of Camden, Mississippi and will major in Athletic Training.

Tyasia played her prep ball at Velma High School where she averaged 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists per game. At Pearl River she averaged 9.5 points and nine rebounds per outing.

The 5'10 forward was selected to the MACJC Honorable Mention All-State team. She has also been selected to play in the MACJC All-Star game April 13 at East Central Community College.

Coach Nelson expressed his thoughts on the signing. "We are very excited to welcome Tyasia to our basketball family. She comes to us from two coaching friends in Scotty Fletcher (former men's coach at William Carey) and Joanna Ortiz who served as an assistant at Pearl River the last two seasons." He added, "Ty is extremely athletic and plays even bigger than her 5'10 frame. She has a great ability to get to the basket and is very physical and strong on defense. She is strong on the glass and her attitude and work ethic will fit in great with our returners."
