Softball Sweeps Lane
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After several attempts to play during the season the Bethel Lady Wildcats and the Lane College Lady Dragons finally met Wednesday in McKenzie.
The Lady Wildcats took both games of the doubleheader winning 13-1 and 8-0. Both games were decided in five innings.
Game 1: The Wildcat offense wasted no time, erupting for seven runs in the opening frame. Kinsley Nichols was a force at the top of the lineup, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Kalani Hernandez drove in three runs, while Fallyn Jordan and Amme Benson both showcased their power with home runs that left no doubt.
Lane's only response came in the third when Sabiya Hunter drove in a run following a Carlin Koger double. However, Bethel starter Karma Wilky remained poised, striking out four and scattering seven hits to earn the win.
Game 2: Pitching prowess and the Sherrill show In the nightcap were deciding factors. Amelia Sherrill took center stage, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Briley Auvenshine added two hits and three RBIs of her own as the Wildcats systematically built their lead.
The story in the circle was Maleyia Prather, who dominated the Dragons through four innings, allowing only two hits. Adalyn Allen closed the door in the fifth, completing the shutout and ensuring the Wildcats entered the locker room with high spirits.
For Coach Craig Massey, the sweep was more than just two wins—it was a statement of consistency as the Wildcats prepare for a crucial conference stretch. "Today was a complete team effort," said Coach Craig Massey. "We challenged the girls to be aggressive at the plate and stay disciplined on the rubber, and they executed that to perfection. It's always great to get a bounce-back performance like this after a long week. The goal now is to take this momentum and carry it right into conference play this weekend. We're excited to be back here at home in front of our fans, and if we play with this same level of intensity, we expect to set the tone for the rest of the season starting Saturday." T
The Wildcats will look to capitalize on their home-field advantage this weekend as they dive back into conference action, aiming to use today's dominant performance as a springboard for the second half of the season.
The Cats moved to 12-22 while the Dragons dropped to 6-20.
Bethel leads the all-time series 10-2.
NOTE SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR WEEKEND SERIES
The upcoming MSC series versus Campbellsville will now see the Lady Cats host the Lady Tigers in a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. The teams will then play a single game on Saturday at noon.
