Lady Wildcats Drop Doubleheader to Open Season

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats faced a tough situation Saturday traveling to Pulaski to open their season against the UT Southern Firehawks.

The Lady Cats entered the season with very limited practice and field time due to the recent wintry storms in the area.

The Hawks took advantage by winning both games, 17-2, and 11-7.

UTS scored nine runs in the first and seven runs in the second in game one. They outhit the Lady Cats 12-5.

Amelia Sherrill drove in both runs for Bethel.

A big inning again in the second game propelled the Firehawks to a win.

After Bethel had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the third, the Hawks answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning, and it proved to be too much for the Cats to overcome.

UTS outhit the Cats 16-11.

Chanley Price hit a monstrous three-run homer and drove in four runs for Bethel. Kinsley Nichols drove in two runs on three hits while Fallyn Jordan accounted for the other RBI.

Bethel will host Milligan University Thursday in a twin-bill home opening set at noon.
