Season Preview:
Lady Wildcat Softball 2026 Season Preview
The Bethel University Lady Wildcats open the 2026 softball season in a period of transition paired with opportunity, as Head Coach Craig Massey begins his first year at the helm. Coming off a 19–22 overall record and a 5–13 Mid-South Conference finish in 2025, the Lady Wildcats look to improve and grow as a team and program as they turn their attention looking for success over a demanding 45-game schedule.
With a new coaching staff in place, Bethel enters the spring focused on establishing a clear identity built around disciplined at-bats, improved run prevention, and aggressive but intelligent base running. Coach Massey, alongside Assistant Coach Shanta Emerson, emphasizes fundamentals, situational awareness, and player accountability—key areas expected to define the Lady Wildcats' style of play in 2026.
The Lady Wildcats must replace the production and leadership of Miranda Carnell and Madison Carey, as well as senior standouts Lauren Reimsnyder and Kirsten Eversole. Their departure leaves holes both offensively and defensively, particularly in high-pressure situations, but also opens opportunities for a veteran core to step into expanded roles.
Veteran Leadership & Positional Stability
Bethel's strength entering 2026 lies in its experienced senior class. Amme Benson, Ashley Aldridge, Kinsley Nichols, Riley Sharp, Fallyn Jordan, Maleyia Prather, Kinsley Caruthers, Jada Wynn and Ella Floyd bring stability across the diamond, offering flexibility in both defensive alignments and offensive lineups. This group provides Coach Massey with multiple lineup options, allowing Bethel to match up strategically against conference opponents.
In the junior class, Briley Auvenshine adds athleticism and consistency, particularly in defensive coverage. Familiarity with the conference pace will be critical as Bethel navigates tight series late in the season.
Junior college transfers Kalani Hernandez, Chanley Price, Kylie Frost, Ashlyn Berkley, and Emma McKenzie arrive with game-tested experience and are expected to contribute immediately. Their presence strengthens roster depth, increases internal competition, and provides the Lady Wildcats with players accustomed to high-repetition, high-pressure environments—an asset across a long conference season.
Freshman Kayleigh Dunn represents an important piece for both the present and future of the program. Her early development will be closely monitored as she adjusts to the speed and physicality of the NAIA game, with opportunities to earn meaningful innings as the season progresses.
Offensive Growth & Statistical Progress
Offensively, Bethel made notable strides last season, finishing with a .321 team batting average, .390 on-base percentage, and .400 slugging percentage. These numbers reflect improved plate discipline, stronger contact, and a more balanced lineup capable of producing runs in multiple ways. Maintaining quality at-bats, extending innings, and capitalizing with runners in scoring position will be key points of emphasis in 2026.
Pitching & Defensive Efficiency
In the circle, the Lady Wildcats posted a 4.80 team ERA, outperforming opponents who finished with a 6.12 ERA. Additionally, Bethel held opponents to a .279 batting average, .350 on-base percentage, and .330 slugging percentage, highlighting progress in defensive execution and pitching depth. Continued development in limiting free bases and executing in late-inning situations will be pivotal to closing out close games.
Coach Massey and Coach Emerson bring a fresh approach focused on consistency, preparation, and competitive resilience. Their combined leadership aims to maximize veteran experience while accelerating the development of newer contributors, fostering a culture built on effort, communication, and trust.
With a veteran-heavy roster, proven transfers, and a renewed sense of direction under new leadership, the Lady Wildcats enter 2026 determined to climb the Mid-South Conference standings. The combination of offensive growth, improved pitching metrics, and roster depth positions Bethel as a team capable of competing deep into conference play and challenging opponents throughout a rigorous 45-game slate.
