Softball Wins Elimination Game to Advance in MSC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The MSC Softball Tournament began Wednesday at Cathi Maynard Park on the Austin Peay State University campus in Clarksville, Tennessee. Sixth-seeded Bethel met seventh seeded Georgetown in an elimination game.
The Lady Cats kept their season alive with a 5-0 victory.
The Cats took a 1-0 lead on a Madison Carey RBI single in the bottom of the second. Riley Sharp drove in a run on a fielder's choice ground out in the third. Kinsley Caruthers drove in a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. Miranda Carnell, a first team all-conference performer put icing on the cake with a two run RBI single later in the inning.
Bethel outhit the Tigers 8-3.
Amelia Sherrill was brilliant in the circle, going the distance with the three-hit shutout.
Bethel moved to 19-20 on the year while Georgetown finished 15-26 on the season.
The second day of the tournament on Thursday features four winners' bracket games.
No. 4 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (23-19, 10-8) plays No. 5 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) (15-26, 5-13) at 11 a.m. CT with the winner advancing to meet Cumberlands (35-7, 18-0) at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday. At 1:30 p.m. CT, No. 3 seed Campbellsville (Ky.) (26-14, 10-8) plays Bethel with that winner meeting No. 2 seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) (19-14, 12-6) at 6 :30 p.m. CT in the final game of the day.
The tournament continues through the weekend with the championship game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 3. If the team that emerges from the consolation bracket wins on Saturday, the if-necessary championship game is at noon CT on Sunday, May 4.
The MSC tournament champion receives the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament.
