Softball Drops Conference Opening Doubleheader to University of the Cumberlands
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - Bethel opened up conference play Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands.
In game one the No. 9 Lady Pats scored in every frame in the five-inning game. UC scored three in the first, two in the second, four in the third and three runs in the fourth. The Patriots won 12-1.
Bethel's lone run was as a result of an RBI single by Kirsten Eversole in the fifth. UC outhit Bethel 12-2. The Wildcats committed three errors in the game. Kaylie McKinley was charged with the loss.
UC took a 3-0 lead in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.
Kinley Caruthers drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
UC answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 5-1 after four. Those runs would be the deciding runs for a Pat win.
Maria Murdaugh doubled in a run in the fifth inning to pull Bethel to within 5-2.
Eversole accounted for Bethel's final run with an RBI in the sixth, but the Wildcats fell 5-3. Caruthers took the Wildcat loss.
The Patriots outhit Behel 9-7.
Bethel dropped to 6-10 and 0-2. UC moved to 20-4 and 2-0.
The Patriots have won eight in a row and are 16-0 at home on the season.
The squads play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at noon.
