Softball Splits with Blackburn
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the Blackburn College Beavers Tuesday afternoon.
In game one, the Cats got on the board in the first with an RBI single off the bat of Madsion Carey.
The Beavers plated four runs in the third. Holly Heuerman's grand slam gave Blackburn a 4-1 lead.
Kalani Kuroda cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.
The Beavers answered with a run in the fourth to push their margin to 5-2.
The Wildcats cut the deficit to 5-3 when Kennedy Gillespie doubled in Miranda Carnell in the bottom of the fourth.
Three runs in the fifth upped the Beaver lead to 8-3.
The Wildcats did not go quietly but a comeback fell short in the bottom of the seventh. RBI's by Murdaugh, Carey and Kuroda gave the Cats hope. A passed ball cut the deficit to 8-7. With runners in scoring position the Cats couldn't score and fell 8-7.
Bethel outhit the Beavers 12-10. Blackburn had four errors in the game while the Cats had two miscues. Kaylie McKinley was charged with the loss.
Bethel run-ruled the Beavers in game two, winning 13-1 in five innings. The Lady Cats scored six runs in the third and fourth innings.
Offensive highlights included a grand slam by Briley Auvenshine in the third. Kuroda had a two-run shot in the fourth.

Kinsley Caruthers allowed just two hits in five innings and picked up the Bethel win.
The Wildcats finished the afternoon at 6-8 while Blackburn completed the day at 1-5.
Bethel opens up conference play Friday and Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands. The teams play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 2 p.m. The squads tangle again Saturday in a twin bill beginning at 11 a.m.
