Softball Drops Doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Bethel Lady Wildcats returned to action Sunday afternoon traveling to Owensboro to meet the Kentucky Wesleyan Lady Panthers.

Bethel jumped out to an early lead in game one on an RBI single by Mari Murdaugh. Kennedy Gillespie scored but it would be the only Wildcat run of the game. Kentucky Wesleyan scored two runs in the third and single runs in the fourth and sixth to grab the 4-1 victory. KWC outhit the Cats 11-6 in the game. Lauren Reimsnyder suffered the hard-luck loss for the Wildcats. Chloe Williams went the distance and picked up the KWC win.

In game two KWC scored single runs in the first and third innings and led 2-0 entering the fifth. Back-to-back doubles by Gillespie and Murdaugh in the top of the fifth produced a single run to cut the Wildcat deficit to 2-1. The Panthers answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning and added two more runs in the sixth to win 9-1. KWC outhit the Cats 12-4. Bethel committed five errors in the game. Kinsley Caruthers was charged with the loss.

Bethel dropped to 5-7 on the season while the Panthers improved to 9-11.

Bethel returns home to host Blackburn College Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
