Lady Cats Open Season With Home Wins

MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The Bethel University Lady Wildcat softball squad under the guidance of new head coach Katherine Hannagan opened their season Saturday at home hosting the University of Health & Sciences Pharmacy.

The Cats made Hannagan's debut a good one with a pair of victories.

Bethel won 1-0 and 5-1.

Lauren Reimsnyder was sensational in game one, firing a two-hit shutout. She was also able to work around three Bethel errors.

The Cats managed only two hits but a suicide squeeze by Maria Murdaugh driving in Kennedy Gillespie in the fourth proved to be the only run Reimsnyder and the Cats would need.

In game two, Kinsley Caruthers rapped out two doubles and went the distance in the circle picking up the win. She allowed just two hits in the game. Caruthers worked around four Bethel miscues.

Gillespie drove in two runs, Madison Carey had three hits and an RBI. Miranda Carnell and Kirsten Eversole drove in single runs.

A four run third inning was the decisive inning in the game.

The Cats host UT Southern at noon on Tuesday.

The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. CT.
