Cats Play Wednesday in Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats begin their postseason play Wednesday in the MSC Softball Tournament. The tournament will be played at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The first day of the tournament consists of a single elimination opening round with seeds 4-11. The top three seeds earn a spot into the double elimination bracket beginning on Thursday.
Seventh-seeded Bethel (Tenn.) (21-20, 11-12) faces No.8 seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (19-22, 10-12) at 4 p.m. CT. The winner will take on Campbellsville on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT. Bethel beat LWC in two of the three games played between the two during the regular season. The series was played in McKenzie.
Bethel has lost four games in a row while LWC has won three straight games.
Fourth-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) (29-18, 13-11) gets the tournament underway on Wednesday against No. 11 seed Pikeville (Ky.) (15-23, 4-19) at 11 a.m. CT. No. 5 seed Cumberland (Tenn.) (24-16, 13-11) takes on No. 10 seed Tennessee Southern (15-28, 5-19) at 1 p.m. CT. The two winners will meet on Thursday at 4 p.m. CT.
No. 6 seed Thomas More (Ky.) (25-17, 12-11) takes on No. 9 seed Shawnee State (Ohio) (19-24, 7-16) in the final opening round matchup at 6:30 p.m. CT. Freed-Hardeman awaits the winner on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT.
Cumberlands (Ky.) is the top seed in the tournament after earning the No. 1 seed with a 21-0 MSC record and a 42-3 overall record. Campbellsville (Ky.) (28-14-1, 16-8) earned the No. 2 seed while Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) (24-11, 15-8)
Thursday will also feature one elimination game at 6:30 p.m. CT. Friday will have two winner's bracket games at 11 a.m. CT and 1:30 p.m. CT. Two more elimination games will also take place on Friday at 4 and 6:30 p.m. CT.
The winner's bracket final is scheduled for Noon CT on Saturday. The loser's bracket semifinal and final will take place on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT and 5 p.m. CT on Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for Noon CT Sunday with the if-necessary to follow at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Maria Murdaugh leads Bethel with a .405 batting average and 49 hits. Kennedy Gillespie has 48 hits and is hitting .356. Gillespie leads the squad in doubles with 15. Alexis Wheeler is hitting .371 and leads the team with five home runs. Wheeler leads the Cats in runs driven in with 35. Wheeler and Amber Osborne are tied with 13 stolen bases.
Lauren Reimsnyder leads the pitching staff with six wins. Maddie Locke and Jezabelle Quintana have five victories each.
