Softball Splits with UTS

MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the UT Southern FireHawks Saturday at Lady Wildcat Park in McKenzie. The teams split the doubleheader with Bethel winning game one but UTS took game two.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Cats won 8-3.  Bethel's Maddie Lock pitched into the seventh inning and picked up the win. Jada Wynn, Amber Osborne, Alexis Wheeler, Maria Murdaugh, Jezabelle Quintana and Kinsley Caruthers each drove in single runs in the win. Kamryn Murdock suffered the UTS loss. Bethel outhit the Hawks 10-7. UTS committed three errors in the game.

In game two UTS took a 1-0 lead in the first but the Wildcats responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Murdaugh scored on a UTS error. Wheeler had an RBI to give the Cats a 2-1 lead. The Hawks tied the game with a run in the third. UTS scored two runs in the fifth to lead 4-2. Kennedy Gillespie had an RBI in the bottom of the fifth and cut the deficit to 4-3. The Hawks scored wo runs in the seventh and led 6-3. Murdaugh homered in the bottom of the seventh but it would not be enough as the Wildcats fell 6-4. UTS outhit Bethel 13-6. Lauren Reimsnyder suffered the loss. Stella Gilbreath was the winner. 

The squads will meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. in a single game.

The Wildcats are 21-17 overall and 11-9 in the Mid-South Conference.

UT Southern is 13-27 and 3-18 in the MSC.
