Total Team Efforts Leads Lady Cats to DH Sweep at Shawnee State

GREENUP, Ky. –The Lady Wildcats battled cold weather and deficits against Shawnee State Saturday but the Cats braved both and captured a doubleheader versus the Bears with comeback wins. Bethel won game one 9-6 and game two, 6-5.

The MSC games were played at Greenup County High School in Greenup, Kentucky.

With the victories the Cats improved to 13-10 overall and 3-2 in the league.  Bethel has won four in a row. The Bears dropped to 11-9 and 2-3. Bethel is 6-0 all-time versus Shawnee State.

In game one, the Lady Cats trailed 6-5 in the top of the seventh. Bethel's Miranda Carnell singled on a 0-1 count to give the Cats the lead. Bethel would add two more runs for the 9-6 victory. Carnell, Kennedy Gillespie and Alexis Wheeler each had two hits in the game. Kinsley Caruthers led the attack with three hits. Carnell and Caruthers each drove in two runs. Kalani Kuroda picked up the Bethel win recording the last five outs in the game. SSU outhit Bethel 13-12 in the game. Bethel left nine runners on base while SSU stranded nine runners. 

Trailing 2-0 in the seventh in game two, the resilient Cats scored six runs in the top of the seventh to win. Gillespie had the go-ahead hit on a 1-1 count to score two and give the Cats a 4-2 lead. Bethel would add two more runs to lead 6-2. SSU didn't go quietly scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning but Bethel prevailed winning 6-5. Jezabelle Quintana picked up the win pitching into the seventh. Kuroda finishing the affair getting the last two outs and picking up the save. The Cats had seven hits and were led by Maria Murdaugh and Wheeler who had two hits each. Murdaugh had two RBI's. Gillespie drove in the two runs. Wheeler and Emma Johnson each drove in a run.  

The squads close out the weekend series with a single game Sunday at noon.
