Lady Wildcats Sweep Blue Mountain Christian
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –If you were a fan of strong pitching, game one of the Tuesday doubleheader between the Bethel Lady Wildcats and the Blue Mountain Christian Toppers at Lady Wildcat Park was the place to be.
Bethel's Maddie Locke and BMC's Harley Mullins hung zeros on the board for seven innings. As a matter of fact, Locke did that for eight innings.
The Wildcats finally scored in the bottom of the eighth when Emma Johnson scored on an infield single by Kinsley Caruthers. Caruthers had thrown out the go ahead run in the top of the eighth with a on target throw from centerfield.
Locke fired a one-hitter to pick up the victory. Bethel managed six hits off Mullins who suffered the heartbreaking Topper loss.
In game two, the Cats sent twelve batters to the plate and scored eight runs on seven hits and two Topper errors in the first inning. Jezabelle Quintana, Kennedy Gillespie, Alexis Wheeler (2) Kalani Kuroda, Miranda Carnell and Amber Osborne (2) drove in runs for the Cats.
Wheeler scored on a Topper error in the second. Abby Alton scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth to give the Wildcats a 10-0 lead and win.
Quintana picked up the Bethel win allowing just six hits. Jacy Weaver was charged with the Topper loss.
Bethel improved to 11-10. BMC dropped to 9-9.
The Cats begin an eight game road run with action at Shawnee State Saturday and Sunday. The Cats and Bears play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and follow that up with a single game Sunday at noon.
