Lady Wildcats Drop Doubleheader to Mustangs
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the Mount Mercy Mustangs Monday afternoon at the Kahlden Complex.
In game one, the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the first and then added two runs in the second to lead 3-0. MMU scored four runs in the third to up their margin 7-0. The visitors from Cedar Rapids added another run in the fourth to lead 8-0. Mount Mercy would win by that score after five.
Bethel was outhit 11-2. Kinsley Caruthers suffered the loss. MMU's Jayna Witzany picked up the Mustang win.
Game two saw the Mustangs run out to another lead scoring two runs in the top of the first. The Cats countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Maria Murdaugh scored on an MMU error. Alexis Wheeler singled to drive in Jezabelle Quintana to tie the game.
The Cats took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single by Kirsten Eversole in the third.
The Mustangs plated four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. Emma Johnson homered in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 6-4 but the Mustangs countered with a single run in the fifth to lead 7-4.
MMU added two runs in the top of sixth to up their lead and win 9-4.
Mount Mercy outhit Bethel 12-5. Quintana was charged with the loss. Kalli Minger picked up the win for MMU.
The Lady Wildcats dropped to 9-10 on the season while Mount Mercy improved to 9-4 on the year.
The Cats return to the diamond Tuesday hosting Blue Mountain Christian at 1 and 3 p.m.
