Softball Drops Doubleheader to Thomas More
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats played host to the Thomas More Saints Friday at Lady Wildcat Park. The doubleheader was the first games of a three-game MSC weekend set.
The visitors from northern Kentucky got on the board in the first inning with a three -run homer off the bat of Karys Black. The Wildcats scored a run on an RBI double by Jezabelle Quintana. The run by Kirsten Eversole made it 3-1 after two innings. Josie Wefer gave the Saints a 5-1 lead with a two-run homer in the fifth. Quintana tripled home Eversole and Alexis Wheeler in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-3 after five. Black homered again in the seventh to up the TMU lead to 7-3. The Saints added another run to win 8-3. TMU outhit Bethel 12-6. Lauren Reimsnyder took the Bethel loss while Emma Kent was the winner for the Saints.
In game two, the Cats jumped out to 1-0 lead in the first when Wheeler scored on a TMU error. The Cats went up 2-0 when Amber Osborne had an RBI single in the second. The Saints scored six runs in the top of the third. Kinsley Caruthers drove in a run with an RBI single in the bottom of the third to make it 6-3. With single runs in the fourth and fifth Thomas More took an 8-3 lead. Osborne doubled in Kalani Kuroda in the fifth for the final run of the game as TMU won 8-4.
Bethel outhit the Saints 9-5. Maddie Locke suffered the loss while Cassidy King picked up the win for TMU. Annika Gels was credited with the save.
The Wildcats dropped to 8-8 overall and 0-2 in the MSC. The Saints improved to 9-5 and 2-2.
The squads will play a single game Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
