Lady Wildcats Wrap up Play in Gulf Shores with Walk-off Win

GULF SHORES, Ala. -After going 3-1 in their first four games in the Gulf Shore Invitational, Bethel wrapped up their play in the tournament with two games on Sunday. The Cats met Texas A &M San Antonio at 9 a.m. and then William Woods at 11:15 a.m.

The Cats took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Maria Murdaugh, Kinsley Caruthers, and Emma Johnson all scored runs with aggressive base running by the Cats. They all advanced on stolen base attempts by their teammates. It would be the only runs in the game for Bethel.

A &M scored single runs in the first, second and sixth. They scored two runs in the fifth and won 5-3. Bethel committed four errors in the game and were  out hit 9-8.

Game two saw Bethel's Murdaugh put the Cats up 1-0 with an RBI single in the third. Williams Woods tied the game with a run in the fourth.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead. Murdaugh was in the mix again with an RBI single. Amber Osborne drove in two runs with a single and Bethel led 4-1.

William Woods tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth only to see Bethel again retake a lead with a RBI single by Lauren Reimsnyder in the bottom of the frame. 

The Owls battled right back with a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at five all.

Caruthers walked to lead off the seventh. Madison Carey reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Jada Wynn walked to load the bases. Murdaugh reached on an Owl error and the Cats took a 6-5 victory.

William Woods outhit the Wildcats 10-7. Reimsnyder went the distance and picked up the Wildcat win.

Bethel completed the event at 8-6 on the season.

The Wildcats return home Friday for MSC play hosting Thomas More at 2 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
