Lady Cats Take Two on Day Two in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats returned to action Saturday with two more games in the Gulf Coast Invitational in Guld Shores. The Lady Cats had split their two games on Friday beating No. 8 Central Methodist and falling to (RV) Texas A&M Texarkana.

In game one, Bethel's Maria Murdaugh hit a lead-off homer to give the Cats the early lead over Southeastern Baptist. Kennedy Gillespie drove in Kinsley Caruthers with a ground-out to give Bethel a 2-0 lead. Maddie Locke drove in two runs with a double to centerfield. Amber Osborne made it 6-0 with a two -run triple.

 The Cats blew the game wide open in the fifth inning scoring seven runs to lead 13-0. Kirsten Eversole single driving in a run, Locke tripled driving in three runs. Osborne homered and Mikayla Vincent drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Maddie Locke went the distance yielding just one hit. The Cats had 11 hits in the game. Locke finished with five RBI's. Osborne drove in four runs for Bethel.

Game two saw the Cats square off versus No. 16 Columbia (M0). It would prove to be a wild game. The Cougars score three runs in the first and two in the third to lead 5-0.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the second. Osborne had an RBI single and later scored on a Cougar error.  

Bethel had a huge third inning scoring seven runs to take a 9-5 lead. Alexis Wheeler drove in two runs. She later scored on a CC error. Murdaugh and Kennedy Gillespie also drove in two runners in the inning.

The Wildcats upped their lead to 11-5 with two runs in the fourth. Osborne and Gillespie had RBI's.

The Cougars scored four runs in the top of the fifth to cut Bethel's lead to 11-9. 

Emma Johnson provided Bethel two insurance runs with a two- run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Murdaugh finished with three RBI's.    

Bethel would go on to win 13-11.

The Wildcats outhit the Cougars 15-14. CC committed nine errors in the game.

 Bethel moved to 7-5 on the season.

Bethel wraps up their play in the tournament with two games on Sunday. The Cats meet Texas A &M San Antonio at 9 a.m. and then meet William Woods at 11:15 a.m.
