Lady Wildcats Drop Doubleheader to UTS

PULASKI, Tenn. –After splitting a doubleheader Friday, the Bethel Lady Wildcats and the Tennessee Southern FireHawks met for another twin bill Saturday afternoon in Pulaski. UTS won both games with an 8-3 victory in game one and a heart stopping 10-9 win in game two.

In game one UTS scored four runs in the first to take an early advantage. Bethel's Alexa Thrasher doubled in Leah Beasley in the third to make it 4-1. After the Phoenix scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, Bethel's Melanie Alexander slugged a two-run homer to pull the Cats to within two at 5-3. In the bottom of the inning, Sydney Self hit a three-run homer to give the Hawks an 8-3 lead. The game ended with UTS winning by that score.

The Hawks outhit the Cats 13-8. Savannah Sands picked up the UTS win while Madison Locke was charged with the loss.

After trailing 1-0 in game two, Bethel's Alexander scored on a UTS error. Maria Murdaugh scored on an Alexis Wheeler ground out. Thrasher scored on a passed ball to put Bethel up 3-1.

The Hawks regained the lead with a five run third.

Bethel erased the 6-3 deficit with a three-run bomb by Melanie Alexander in the top of the fourth.

The Cats broke the tie in the sixth on a Gillian Grahn RBI single.

The FireHawks plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth and took a 9-7 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Alexander did her magic again driving in Madison White. Murdaugh drove in pinch runner Brynn Browder to knot the game at 9-9. Browder was ruled safe on an obstruction call.

The Hawks won when Haley Parrott was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the eighth.

UTS had a 13-11 hit advantage in the game. Madison Haught was charged with the loss. Samantha King was the winner for the FireHawks.

Bethel finished the series at 19-17 and 11-11 in the MSC. UTS is 17-17 and 12-12.

Bethel returns to action Friday at Lindsey Wilson. The squads will play a doubleheader at 2 p.m. CST. They meet again in a twin bill Saturday in Columbia at 2 p.m. CST.
