Lady Wildcats & Tennessee Southern Split Doubleheader in Pulaski

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Bethel Lady Wildcat softball traveled to Tennessee Southern Friday to begin a four game conference weekend series.

The Cats took game one 10-4 but lost a heartbreaker in game two, losing 7-6.

The Wildcats scored six runs in the top of the third in game one. Alexa Thrasher scored on a fielder's choice on a ground out by  Madison White. Leah Beasley followed with a two run double. Maria Murdaugh celebrated her birthday with a three-run triple to give the Cats a 6-0 lead.

UTS scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-2 after three innings.

Melanie Alexander had an RBI double in the fifth driving in pinch runner Brynn Browder. That was followed by a Murdaugh sacrifice fly driving in White. Bethel led 8-2.

UTS scored two runs in the sixth to pull to within 8-4.

As a result of a UTS error in the seventh, Bethel's Alexis Wheeler and Thrasher scored unearned runs to give the Wildcats the 10-4 win.

Bethel stranded twelve runners but outhit the Hawks 11-5.

Lauren Reimsynder picked up the win. Madison Haught was credited with the save. Kamryn Murdock suffered the UTS loss.

Game two would see Murdaugh double in a run in the top of the third.

UTS came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Bethel regained the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Leah Beasley stole second with White scoring on the throw. Murdaugh struck again with RBI single to centerfield. Murdaugh would later score on a Thrasher ground out. Bethel led 4-2.

The FireHawks scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and it was a one run affair at 4-3.

Murdaugh scored in the top of the seventh on a UTS error. Wheeler scored on another Hawk miscue and the Cats led 6-3.

The Hawks rallied and scored four runs in bottom of the seventh to win 7-6. With one out and two runners on, Bree Brady slugged a three-run homer to tie the game at 6-6. Samantha King then hit a walk-off homer to give the Hawks the dramatic win.

King went the distance and was the winner. Reimsnyder, in relief of Haught who pitched well, was charged with the loss.

Bethel outhit the Hawks 10-9. Murdaugh finished the day with three hits and six RBI's.

Bethel completed the day at 19-15 and 11-9 in the MSC. UTS is 15-17 and 10-12.

The teams close out the series Saturday with a twin bill beginning at 1 p.m.
