Bethel Has Strong Showing in MSC Outdoor Men's Track & Field Championship
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. –Cumberlands (Ky.) goes back-to-back, winning the Mid-South Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Monday at The James H. Taylor, II Stadium on the Campus of the University of the Cumberlands.
The Bethel Wildcats had a strong showing finishing fifth with 44 points, Georgetown (Ky.) in sixth with 35 points, and rounding out the teams, Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) finishes with 29 points.
The men and women track, and field Wildcats had a great showing at the conference championship last weekend. With a conference champion, conference runner-up, and several podium finishes as well as a new school record, several personal best and season best times all added up to a great weekend.
Hendrix Calhoun led the team in field event placement and points. Calhoun was the conference champion as well as breaking the school record in the men's discus throw with a distance of 46.09 meters. Calhoun placed 15th in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 28.77 meters. Calhoun also placed 5th in the men's shot-put throw with a distance of 12.57 meters. Calhoun scored a total of 14 points overall in his events for the team.
Will Adkins was a conference runner up in the men's 800-meter race with a time of 1:56.63. Adkins received the highest placement of any individual race. Adkins scored the greatest number of points per solo race with his 2nd place finish scoring him a total of eight points. Adkins also was the first leg of the men's 4x400 meter relay which placed 5th overall and scored a total of four points.
Cedrion Cook started the Wildcats off with the first running event. Cook placed 3rd overall in the men's 10,000-meter race with a time of 33:04.75 giving him a podium finish. Cook also placed 6th overall in the men's 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:54.03. Cedrion scored the most amount of points for the team in individual races with a total of nine points for the squad.
Khristina Parker placed 4th in the women's triple jump with a distance of 9.80 meters. Parker also placed 7th in the women's high jump with a height of 1.35 meters. Parker placed 8th in the women's long jump with a distance of 4.38 meters. Parker is the only athlete to qualify and score points in all three of her events. Parker scored a total of eight points for the team as a freshman.
Frederick Moore placed top 20 in the men's 100-meter race with a time of 11.25 as a freshman.
Braden Wallace placed 11th overall in the men's 1500-meter race with a time of 4:10.57.
Kyler Corder placed 4th overall in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a season best time of 59.97 awarding him five points for the team. Corder was also the 3rd leg of the men's 4x400 Relay.
San'Darius Coleman placed 7th overall in the men's 800-meter race with a time of 1:58.62. Coleman was also on the men's 4x400 relay running the 4th leg. Coleman scored a total of two points for individual races and four points with the 4x400 relay.
Chandler Roberson placed 10th overall in the men's 800-meter race with a time of 1:59.53. Roberson was also on the men's 4x400 relay, he was the 2nd leg. The 4x400 relay team ran a season best with a time of 3:27.17.
Owen Crocker was top 20 in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.13.
Hudson Wallace placed 7th overall in the men's 5,000-meter race with a personal best time of 15:55.08. Hudson scored a total of two points for the team as a freshman.
Hayden Padgett placed 13th overall in the men's 5,000-meter race with a personal best time of 16:30.50.
Coach Wes Bradshaw said "We had an amazing year with great competitions, and our conference meet was no different. All of the athletes performed well, and I am proud of each of them and their willingness to pursue excellence in each of their events. I look forward to seeing what we will achieve next year."
Senior Recognition
Coach Bradshaw added, "We have four seniors who graduate from the program. Allie Chappell, Benard Koech, Braden Wallace, and Carson Warman. They have all achieved much in athletics as well as academically. They have received numerous conference and national academic awards as well as school records. They will be greatly missed as they all made positive impacts, not just on the team but on me as well. I look forward to seeing what positive impacts they will have on the world and I wish them the best of luck in all their endeavors."
